Viral video of couple brutally beaten in Bengal: What happened and why is the TMC under scrutiny?

A disturbing video clip depicting a brutal assault on a couple allegedly involved in an illicit relationship has sparked widespread outrage in West Bengal.

The incident, which took place in Chopra, Uttar Dinajpur district, was reportedly sanctioned by a local 'salishi sabha' (Kangaroo court).

Police investigation and response

The West Bengal Police responded by registering a case after verifying the authenticity of the video.

As per a PTI report, Islampur Police Superintendent Joby Thomas K confirmed the initiation of raids to apprehend the main accused and promised a prompt investigation into the motive behind the attack.

"We have watched the video clip on social media and have taken immediate legal action," stated Joby Thomas K.

In the video, a man is seen viciously beating a woman, causing her visible distress, while also attacking another man with a bamboo stick.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) were quick to condemn the incident and accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of being complicit in what they termed as "bulldozer justice" under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's governance.

"This is the ugly face of Mamata Banerjee's rule in West Bengal.

The guy in the video, who is beating up a woman mercilessly... is famous for giving quick justice through his 'insaf' sabha and is a close associate of Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman," BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya said in a post on X.

He claimed that there is a Sandeshkhali in every village of West Bengal and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a "curse for women".

"There is no semblance of law and order in Bengal. Will Mamata Banerjee act against this monster or defend him like she stood up for Sheikh Shahjahan?" Malviya said in the post.

Shahjahan is an arrested TMC functionary of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district, where allegations of sexual abuse and land grab have been levelled against Trinamool Congress leaders.

JP Nadda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the act, stating, "A horrific video has come to light from West Bengal, reminding of the brutalities that exist only in theocracies. To make matters worse, the TMC cadre and MLAs are justifying the act.

Be it Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur or many other places, Didi’s West Bengal is UNSAFE for women."

Local TMC MLA Hamidur Rahman, however, denied he has any connection with the accused and distanced himself from the incident.

He said it was a village matter and not related to the party.

TMC district president Kaniyalal Agarwal attributed the incident to the couple's alleged illicit relationship, which "did not go down well with the villagers".

He said that the party would investigate the episode.

TMC spokesperson Shantanu Sen condemned the incident but also pointed out that such kangaroo courts were common during the Left Front regime too.

Sometimes, a quick beheading was the easy way out. Here, a man is pictured standing in a box, as a crowd watches his progress.

Grim & Brutal! Boxer Rebellion Execution And Torture Photos These photos of the Boxer Rebellion (1899 – 1901) are fucking brutal!!! Boxer rebels and criminals were put to death in view of the public in a very bloody way with no mercy.  These acts of brutality were done as a warning to others not to cross the state. If the man tied up in this torture device seems a little too cheerful considering his situation, there’s a reason for this. He wasn’t a prisoner.  In fact, he was a guide whom the photographer used to help demonstrate the device. A real convict on the ladder-like contraption would definitely not have been looking so serene.  Their shins would have been digging into the edge of the cross board every time they allowed their body to relax.  And they wouldn’t have been able to sit or stand but would’ve been forced to stay in that uncomfortable, hunched position for as long as the punishment dictated. The man in the photo is not a criminal. He is one of the...

A MAN CONVICTED OF RAPING AND MURDERING A 3-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS EXECUTED IN SANA'A.

A man convicted of raping and murdering a 3-year-old girl was executed in Sanaa on Monday in front of hundreds of onlookers, the first public execution there since 2009. "Security was very tight, because authorities were fearing a revenge attack by armed men from the Bani Matar tribe to which the girl's family belong," said Reuters photographer Khaled Abdullah, who witnessed the scene. The police van transporting Muhammad al-Maghrabi, 41, to Sanaa's Tahrir Square was escorted by five police patrol vehicles.  The execution drew a large number of onlookers, some perched up telegraph poles and many watching from rooftops. The crowd started to shout "Allah is the greatest" when Maghrabi arrived. "The man was escorted from the van to the middle of the square, and then the place turned to a complete chaos and I fought for a position to take pictures," Abdullah said. "He tried to talk to the executioner, a police officer who was calmly smoking a ciga...
