A woman of 32 years was attacked by a polar bear in the Berlin Zoo when she jumped into their space
Have you ever visited a zoo? You’ve probably noticed those signs cautioning you not to feed the animals or get too close. Those signs aren’t for decoration; they’re meant to protect visitors and animals.
But sometimes, people ignore these warnings, plunging themselves into harm’s way. This was the case with a 32-year-old woman, Mandy K., who was jobless and desperate.
While visiting the Berlin Zoo, Mandy decided to leap into the polar bear enclosure. She had to scale a fence, a hedge line, and a wall to do this. And she chose the worst possible time – feeding time.
Predictably, one of the polar bears promptly attacked her. She was left with severe wounds from the bear’s powerful bites.
Fortunately, a quick-thinking zoo employee managed to frighten the bear away and rescue Mandy. She sustained severe injuries to her arm, leg, and back.
Mandy is currently in the hospital, recovering after surgery. Let’s hope her story serves as a stark reminder of why we should respect those warning signs at zoos
